Photos from Fabric Dyeing Demo, Piedmont Craftsmen's
54th Annual Craft Fair I signed up to demo indigo dyeing at the Piedmont show. They have wheel thrown pottery demos and I just thought it would be good to have people see what it takes to dye fabric and how wonderful the indigo process is.... with the fabric changing from green to blue... right in front of their eyes! There were some gasps and applause! I show the shibori techniques for folding the fabric and using clamps and rubber bands for the 'thread' of the shibori. It was a lot of fun and took about 1 1/2 hours. Some of the people asked me to do some of the patterns that are in the indigo quilt that was hanging in my booth. Then they really saw how hard it was to duplicate patterns. Lots of fun!
This dyeing process starts out green as you see
